Glaucoma is among the leading causes of blindness both in humans and in dogs. Glaucoma is defined by elevation of the intraocular pressure. Glaucoma can be hereditary or secondary due to some other ocular disease. Using a genome-wide mapping approach with canine-specific markers we have identified a novel glaucoma locus to CFA8 in Dandie Dinmont Terrier dog breed (DDT) with a late-onset disease. The overall associated region is large covering about 10 Mb of sequence but fine-mapping narrows the best haplotype to a 2 Mb critical region. Our ongoing re-sequencing efforts of the entire locus aim to identify the causative mutation, which may help us to understand the genetic background of glaucoma across species. The identified locus maps to a syntetic region previously associated with human glaucoma too.

Mustard and Pepper Dandie DinmontsWelcome to the website of the Southern Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club. We hope to appeal to all Dandie Dinmont owners, whether they are a breeder, exhibitor, or just have a much loved companion Dandie. We are a friendly group who are committed to promoting the breed and supporting our members. We hope you enjoy the site and that we can help you discover more about this wonderful breed.

The objectives of the SDDTC are to encourage the breeding of top quality healthy Dandie puppies, to help and support breeders, to organise events and to give each member a sense of belonging to a real 'Dandie family'. We have members all over the UK and from every country that has a Dandie population. The Southern Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club honours our Breed Standard, one of the oldest Breed Standards in the World.

We have many exciting plans for our new website. Please watch this space! We are hoping to feature illustrated pages on how to groom a Dandie Dinmont and we will be making available our Southern Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club Stud Dog list to encourage and promote good breeding practises. We would welcome any ideas, suggestions or Dandie news for this site and you can easily contact me here
