Southern Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club

The Southern Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club’s Open show Cricklade the 12th of April 2009.

First I would like to thank all that took the trouble to come and show their lovely Dandies under me. In fact I feel very honoured and grateful. A warm thank you to my most efficient stewards Jane Withers and Melanie Holmes-Winters.

It was in May in 1973 that I was given my first Dandie puppy and from then the breed is so very close to my heart. It is always the same good feeling to look into a pair of wise and gentle Dandie eyes. To judge my entry made me just so optimistic for breeds future, because there have been a notable general improvement, mainly soundness wise. There have always been some sound strains of the breed in the UK, but I have the feeling that we have to thank our North American friends for that good function and excellent anatomy now has been so generally established. Today, restricted movement is becoming rarer and rarer.

Veteran 7-9 years, d or b. (5,3): 1, Poynton Pocahontas, lovely 8yrs pepper with a lovely head, good outline and with most typical coat Moved well. 2, Finloren Fantasia At Mishada. Also a very typical bitch with a lot to like, though being on the bigger side.

Veteran 7-10 years, d or b. (4,2): 1, Brackenford Capricious of Hendell. Most pleasing pepper of lovely size, outline and movement. Her head and melting expression is quite something. BV.

Puppy dog (3,1): 1, Yazga Love The One You’re With. Puppy showing lots of promise with many classical features as a lovely strong head and the most flexible shapely body. Well laid shoulders, excellent proportions, moving so well, really using his strong hindquarters. BP. 2, Cassencarrie Gandalf At Lykath. Another mustard, in fact not unlike 1, and with a lot to like. Lovely head and outline. Good texture of coat. Good mover.

Junior dog (2,0): 1, Hendell Alphones With Etsill. Lovely head and expression. Good bone, lovely neck and clean shoulders. Excellent texture of coat. Moved well and with a good tail. 2, Cassencarrie Gandalf At Lykath.

Novice dog (2,0): 1, Vistca Vian of Hendell. This mustard makes a very nicely balanced attractive picture. A strong head with good jaws. Excellent wise expression. Lovely outline with well laid shoulders. Moved so well and his positive hind action won him RBD.

Limit dog (5,1): Two superb mustard dogs in this class, 1, Cassencarrie James Blonde. Well put together with a nice head and good coat. Moved well. 2, Torbrae Dance N Dazzle, of lovely type with the most beautiful strong head and appealing expression. In a bit short coat but of good texture. 3, Margham Go For Gold With Maganbar.

Open dog (3, 2): I will never forget the sight of Am Ch Pennywise Burning Ambition With Cassencarrie move so extremely free and with aplomb around the ring. What an exquisite Dandie! So very well balanced. Of ideal size. Lovely outline with a strong neck of good length and fine front plus excellent bone. Good texture of coat. Excellent head and expression. Added to this with a very happy and positive attitude. Bigger things must soon come for this star. BIS.

Puppy bitch (2,1): 1, Meganbar Silver Geisha. Pepper with a nice timeless overall picture. Beautiful head and expression. Lovely thin ears. Good proportions. Most typical coat texture. Good clean shoulders. Moved OK.

Junior bitch (3,1): 1,Wazzly Athena, mustard with a good skull, but I would wish a stronger foreface. Moves well. Lovely outline and with good body proportions. 2, Millerim Rubis Jeudi. Pepper that could have been in better coat. Good head. Lovely outline. Moves well.

Post Graduate bitch (6,4): 1, Swanwillow Passion Flower. A delightful bitch of lovely size. Today out of coat, but could surely trouble the best in a proper jacket. She has so much I look for. Everything in a neat package. Moves with purpose. Good head with lovely expression. Well constructed. And to this with lots of personality plus. 2, Mishada Tempting Touch. A true and honest pepper. Most typical coat. Good body and movement. Could have wished for a bit better laid shoulders.

Limit bitch (7,2): 1, Cassencarrie Red Ribbon. Eyecatching stylish mustard built on lovely lines. A sound mover. Lovely head and expression. Good coat. RBB. 2, Hendell Tassel At Pennywave. A beautiful bitch in short coat, though she had nothing to hide with her correct anatomy. Excellent head and expression. A sound mover.
