Well Summer arrived, it was on Saturday 30th August, it lasted the whole of the day and it was also the City of Birmingham Canine Association Championship Show.

Dandies were judged by breed specialist Patricia Clayton (Kennel Barvae). We were second in the ring after the Airedale Terriers so the temperature in the hall was a little warm. The society do not seem to have many outside ring facilities but space is at a premium.
Best of Breed (BOB) was Irene Carter's Cassencarrie James Blonde, a first CC for both dog and owner. I think anyone who knows the Carter family will appreciate how much this win meant to them after loosing their first Dandie so tragically last year. I don't think Irene stopped shaking all day and when the dog then went on to win Terrier Group Three under judge Raymond Platt (Kennel Tamzin) you could be forgiven for thinking the whole family would burst with pride.

There is a bit of a break now until the next show with CCs for the breed so no more slogging up the motorways for nearly three weeks, then up to Driffield, see you there.

Well believe it or not it is still summer, judging by the weather at the recent Championship shows, Bournemouth and Welsh Kennel Club you could be forgiven for thinking it was late Autumn, Bournemouth was at least dry on the Saturday, though muddy.

It is always disappointing when you enter under a judge only to find out on the day they have been replaced, to add to that the replacement having judged only ten months prior things can only get better, at least being first in meant you could be back on the road for just after 11am.

The weather at Welsh Kennel Club was horrid, no outside rings were used presumably to save the ground for other events as the showground has many other things going on there from agricultural shows to antique fairs. Dandies were second in the ring after Parsons, not a huge entry diminished by absentees with only eight males on the ground, it was nice to see the BOB Dandie, the recently crowned Ch Swanwillow Savannah winning third in the group under terrier specialist and Dandie judge Ken Bounden (kennel Tolpedn)

Its onwards to Scottish Kennel Club next knowing Scotland it could be scorching hot and raining all in the same day.

Sunday 13th July saw the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club's championship show at Winsford in Cheshire. Breed specialist John Roslyn (Kennel Renald ) was the judge elect casting his eye over the entry.

This show proved an international affair with visitors from the USA & Australia - Cathy Nelson (Kennel Pennywise) & Norma Ryan (Kennel Tigh O' Tykes) over for a holiday with Judy Hill (Kennel Miflin) & Emma Greenaway (Kennel Jollygaze) on a stopover from down under via the world show in Sweden! Both Cathy & Emma handled dogs in the challenge so it was a change to see new faces.
